Mario Golf Advance Tour Cheater (potentially)
5 mensagem(ns) normal
I'm new to this website and I wanted to look at Mario Golf Advance Tour Score Records, and I found a user who had submitted both a -50 and -51 in Marion Singles Tourneys. The person who submitted them was the user EricCloutier.
These scores seem to be wildly outrageous compared to the other competition and I believe I know why.
In Mario Golf Advance Tour, when playing a tournament through Story or Quick Play mode, you can Pause your game, Save your game, and then reload the tournament with the exact hole your on but with different winds and different lies, or in gaming terms, different RNG. By Saving and Quitting over and over again, EricCloutier can get the RNG that he wants and make a perfect shot to get it in the hole every single time.
EricCloutier shot a -50 and a -51. Marion is a Par 72. So in strokes, he shot a 22 and a 21. That would require Hole in ones on EVERY SINGLE HOLE except for the Par 5's. While it would take a while for someone to do that with saving and quitting, the chances of it happening in one continuous attempt, its just not possible.
There are no game breaking strats or any glitches that are known either that could even be used. While technically its not stated in the rules of the game, this is giving someone a significant advantage that anyone can do, but its essentially rigging to make it go your way.
Personally if it were me, I would have those scores removed since I dont think saving and quitting constitutes as fair play, but I will let the VGR team decide, just wanted to make sure it was mentioned

Hi, and welcome VGR if this hasn't been said before.
Although I agree with you that this type of playing is not fairplay, it doesn't seem to break any rules here, as any players could redo the performance -as tedious as it seems-. Like you said, no bugs or random glitches as been abused to do it but it rather feels like trying hard to capture Mewtwo by reloading the game everytime you lose to catch him.
As much as I'd agree with you that it would be a much funnier type of competition to have it done in one try, it would be extremely hard to change the rule of the game now and find out which player did or did not use this "mechanic" in its play. I would encourage you to be the first posting a video proof of this game with your complete run, it might not grant you the gold medal but you will have a respect credit from the other member of the community.
If you could provide a link to the concerned scores it would be appreciated.
Plus, as the user hasn't connected in 10 years, there is little chance we can contact him to ask about the legitimity of his scores.
Note that this is my personnal opinion and might be subjected to further analysis in the future. Thanks for your concern and patience, carterferris07. I wish to see more of your play in the next times.
I do respect that opinion. However, I do have one question. You mentioned that it would be very hard to change the rules since the game has been on the site for so long. However, on Mario Golf: Advance Tour, there have been no Game rules that have been set in place at all. And from what I can tell, records have been going on that game since 2008 (maybe earlier). Consider that there are right now zero rules on the game, how would it be hard to input rules to the game itself?
Also I did put in a link in the first message to scores itself if you wanted to look at the leaderboard. Honestly, the -42 score thats in 2nd place could also be doing the same thing, just less egregious.
