They probably use one of these two methods:

1) They use Google Translation, but their sentences aren't very clear.
2) They use real translator guys.

We are using only the 2nd possibility in order to make translations as good as possible. If you know people perfectly speaking deutch, portuguese, spanish, sweedish or other common-used languages, we're intersted in.

I have to know if we could find a way to translate all VGR words by giving some members an access to a special admin for example.
I need to talk with magicbart for that, and if accepted, I'll develop this asap so you guys can help us to translate the site in more languages.

I don't want to speak for the admins, but VGR need to be only in english. There are French 'cause the base site was for French.

No, if VGR can be in several languages, it would bring more members from different country on the site, I think it can be very interessant.

I really like the idea of new languages.
The only other language that I have to learn in school is Irish and French and the one I learn outta school is Icelandic. Unfortunately, I cannot translate Irish because it is complicated learning it aww

Anyway, I love this idea because it will attract people from everywhere, which is good for VGR.

The primary language of the site is meant to be English(arcade has said this before) and a lot of non-french users feel alienated because all important matters are conducted in french.

The more languages the site can be in, the better it would be

What things you found that is not translated?

Anyway, maybe by doing an administration for translators, we could improve both number of languages available and full translation of a language, isn't it?

I think it's a good idea to give an administration access to translators.
Currently the translator status grants nothing...

As for the English translation, I think there are certainly odd things but without any access to check and see the whole thing, I alone, can't provide perfect translation.
Anyway, I greatly thanks the people asking and telling me when they find a better one.

As translation files are in a special format, I don't know if it is possible to have an admin interface to manage them.
I think (but I may be wrong) that the best we could do is an interface to upload translation files (but it doesn't much change from the FTP upload...)

If we can find a solution to do something more effective, maybe we'll be able to translate the site in more languages than english/french. Would be nice. smile

Its very simply.
First we have to program in English language.
And next we send people who want to translate by email a po file every month and he has to translate an re send the file.
We can do all the languages we want but the game group and records will be display in English for other languages than french.

Translation = nothing to develop but we can do as we already do lol

For his defense, edit .po files is very simple. Just need the right program (Poedit in this case).

I've just got an idea : we could add a page to explain how translation works (in Site category I think), with a little tutorial for the use of Poedit. Starting this point, any member could translate in his language, he would just have to ask us for a .po file.

EDIT
We even could let a .po file to download. As soon as there is an update in our files, we update it on the page too.

And we could add a credit part to thank people who would have done a part of translation. For each language translated (completely or partially), we show names of translators who work in it.

We have to discuss about this point. I can't let anyone download our .po file and give us their translations without a security risk. We absolutly need to trust the translator. So, we need a translator administration where are explainations about what a .po file and why we need poEdit, how it works, and find a secure way to get the .po file back.
We can't let (event trusted) users upload bad or hacked .po files directly in production, and also, we need to store it into our SVN.

Agree to not let anyone directly upload a .po file. I just was talking of being able to download it from the site (and I don't mean the production file but only a copy of it of course).

We could have 2 levels of translations :
* level 1 : official translators in the team like we have today. Only them could access to admin and update .po files on server and SVN.
* level 2 : any member who would like to help and translate all or some part of the site in his language. In this case he could be able to download a copy of the last version of .po file to suggest a translation in his language. When he has done his job, he send the .po file to an official translator who check and update the file if it's OK.

But as I don't know security risks we're exposed to, maybe we can't allow this approach.

Why only english or french ? People can do topics about translation for the language they want like for this topic. But they have to precise what is the language.

I would like to say is that if there are new languages available, only records and records groups should be concerned, 'cause even a stranger can be satisfied with the English on the interface and the site presentation.

I think there are too different page because of the different languages, it will be much harder to manage 'cause each record would be multiplied by the number of languages page.

Contents of the site are not easily understandable if people don't speak english well. For instance, FAQ texts could be hard to understand if you don't speak English or French.
On the contrary, in other languages, english names of records are easily findable in the game. You just have to change the language in the game or the console in most of cases.

I like these ideas. I could help with Spanish. Though, My Spanish comes from the Mexican Spanish Language, which is a bit different from the Original Spanish Language from Spain, so I don't know what conflicts that would present.

My Fluent Languages: English, Spanish.

I could help with both. yes
