Super Mario Bros. (NES) - Using halfway checkpoint?

So I was looking at some of the records on this site and noticed that some of them appear to use the halfway checkpoint on some places. Records like 4-1 have both #2 places using the halfway mark in order to get 266 (240 is the maximum without it).
Is this allowed? If it is, then it most definitely shouldn't be. It literally takes away half of the skill needed to complete the level and forces you to kill yourself to get the best time; it's very stupid.

If this is not allowed you can't know when a user plays from the halfway and wait for a time that is good without playing from halfway checkpoint and only then finish.
Another point is that if you die on a run after the halfway checkpoint you would have to turn off the game and return to the level and start all over. In other words you would only have 1 try, which sucks.

Hahaae :
Having to do that is tough luck. I don't know any other site that allows using the half-way point, and for good reason. It isn't fully playing the level and it requires you to suicide in order to get the best time.
Wii-records
And it's a strategy. I don't think why it should be denied/removed, I repeat if it's it will be hard to know if a time is legit or not. Considering legit a time not started from half of the course. This will be more troublesome than SMB3

Wii records? Isn't that the same website that has scores for things like 9999 VR in MKW, or 3 stars? Pretty weak site to link to. Having to kill yourself isn't strategy and it takes less skill than actually running the entire level (not bashing your skill, I'm sure you could rank #1 without halfway checkpoints).

Hahaae, Almost everyone here uses the checkpoint in the classic Mario Bros games . (Except Mario Bros . 3 where there is none) . It also depends on the levels . Often in the latest level , there is no control point. You must do the traget in full. This is the case for Super Mario Bros . The Lost Level where sometimes there is a checkpoint and not others . I see no problem there.
If you want to play a full time trial , go ahead . But nothing prevents the use of a checkpoint (ghost) to save time . This is not cheating. Only a trick to make a better one. You can try 100% Time Trial, but it will disadvantage.
Wii records is not a good reference for records. They accept just anything . Not complicated.
Say that we are an exception to the rule. Does not make a fuss with that Hahaae . Here, we always look for the performance. Whether it's with a control point or not, it does not change the way we view other horizon.

Seriously, with the amount of good "true" speedrunners on the whole internent, maybe we must add Time Remaining - No Checkpoint (And of course No TAS) on all Mario & others strong licenses to improve the website and its reputation. And for sure, all records can only be proved by Video.

A good and respectful idea. But I sincerely think that it is not realistic, due to the large amount of games where records are made with tricks (like Sonic 2, ...)
With your idea, it is almost if we create categories of "No trick records" and "Trick records". Difficult to list !
I prefer to indicate in an "Informations/Rules" window or link in the main page of the game, what is allowed and forbidden, and if a record requires a video proof or not.
VGR Team is discussing about how to install this soon...

What you're saying is right but I don't think the deal is about Trick but about Definition.
I'm sure for the main part of players, this groups mean a complete run on the level.
Hahaae is the perfect example.
Edit : In addition, everywhere on the Internet, speed runs are done on the FULL level except here on VGR. So we must add this groups I think.
