Hello, I've been reading some forums out of curiosity and came upon a discussion about cheating regarding the Virtual Console. I have posted several records while using Virtual console and I want to be sure that these records are considered legitimate. I would also prefer to avoid having a black square on my account.

I bring this up because of this quote by [Zimer]:

TJ7, maybe you don't know but I'll tell you. Virtual console scores were allowed to submit in original games and that happened during many years but around in 2021 (if I'm not wrong), that was reverted and eventually put me in troubles. I'm completly sure that many users did that, but I'd never accuse them.

This has confused me because in the rules it still says:

  • Unofficial emulated games (emulated games: replicated game on a platform it had not been developed for). Official emulation (on Virtual Console [Wii] and Nintendo eShop [Wii U, 3DS]) is authorized, as well as games on console allowing backward compatibility games;

I checked the games I've played and I have 6 that I'm concerned about.

Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong Jr

Ice Climbers

Wrecking Crew

these 4 have been played on VC for 3DS , these scores were posted in 2020 which would be before the switch that Zimer claimed in the quote above.

also

Mario's Super Picross

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

these 2 were played on the Switch , these scores were posted in 2022 so these errors would be entirely on my end and I apologize for that.

I would also like to bring up that on my score for Donkey Kong, it is specified that I played on the 3DS, despite there no longer being an option for 3DS on that specific record. This leads me to believe that what Zimmer has said is true and that my records need to be transferred to the appropriate sections.

below is a picture to show what I mean:

I know I have low scores for these titles so it's probably not that big of a deal lol, but I would still like to know that all my records are 100% legitimate.

Please let me know if this isn't an issue that I need to be worried about.

However, If it is an issue, then please delete the scores so I can post them in the appropriate sections

For reminder (or information), since 9th May 2020, it was decided by the VGR Council to separate the original games (NES, Megadrive...) from their Virtual Console version (Wii, Wii U, 3DS, Switch...).
Because of different gameplay options (savestates, rewinds).

VGR Council: report of the Councils 3 & 4

You can also read the archived topic about Virtual Console , when it was added on VGR.

Separation of WiiU and 3DS games have been 96% made since March 2021, only remains Super Mario games.
For Wii games, we finally discovered and confirmed with Zimer's case that Wii also have different gameplay options ("pause-savestates"), so Wii VC games also need to be separated, in the next future.
Note that Zimer was not banned because of his use of Virtual Console.
VC continues to be allowed in VGR (as official emulation), but clearly needs to be separated.
Sorry if we don't fix a date to act the Wii VC games separation, because it takes a very long time, and we are now few admins who can really deal/work with this "problem".
This actual topic shows that this is maybe not clear, and we probably need to make a reminder or update in the News.
Due to our busy planning, it will probably be done in January 2023.

So, in your case (but this message is for all), you can now put your scores in the right version, if it was played on WiiU, 3DS or Switch (except Super Mario series, for the moment).

I will try to move your indicated scores in the right place, in the next days.
For reminder, you can't move or delete your scores yourself, only Admins can do this (if agreed).
If it is not done this week, I can also delete your scores sent in the wrong place, and send you a Private Message for concerned games. Then, you will need to send your scores (+ eventual proofs) again.
I will contact you next week, anyway.
During this period, don't hesitate to notice me if you see other players who clearly used the Virtual Console, it would be helpful.
For your Donkey Kong score, thanks for having signaled this bug, we will fix it also soon.

Thank you for the quick reply.

If its easier I can post my new scores myself since I planned on getting new proof pictures anyways. Then all you have to do is delete the old ones.

Also, thank you for explaining everything to me.

Hi, I found someone else with the same glitch as me in Balloon fight. You can also see their 3ds in the proof picture.

Donkey Kong : score 15900 moved (from NES/Wii to 3DS/WiiU)

Donkey Kong Jr. (NES/Wii): score 31700 deleted (because you already have a score 37700 on the right 3DS place)

I will update this step by step.
I need to check your records, unfortunately you did not helped me with game links, and it tooks time to find the corresponding records.
