Description
So that was a run. This is the first time I've ever scored two albatrosses in one round, but I still think I could do better... Anyway, this run is still pretty cool, I am now the fourth person to have tied the 9-Hole WR for the original Wii Sports: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvGKq3YBs8w
*Thoughts:*
Hole 10 - There's room for improvement here, as it would be a much better strategy to leave zero wind for a later hole. I was just tired of resetting, and the setups for these pins are so easy that they'll usually all work even if you bend or red-line shot one.
Hole 11 - Again, if going for a higher score I could reset for an Ace on this hole. I knew the setup for these conditions but with 10m/s, and I thought I'd adjusted far enough to the right, but didn't. Also overpowered.
Hole 12 - Northwest is the best wind for going the regular route on this hole. I know a bunch of setups for the other two pins, but had never chipped in with 'AR' before! I think many people would've used Spoon, but my strategy was to bounce on the slope right in front of the green, which is harsh enough to significantly slow down the ball, but with this pin placement being the furthest away, Driver had enough speed to make it.
Hole 13 - Obviously I aimed too far to the left. For some reason I treated it like 'BR', which I was used to playing in Classic B. When dealing with that pin it's just far enough right that you land on a differently shaped portion of rough, and therefore aiming in the way I did would work with the same conditions on Classic B. With all that said, this was pin 'AR', which is in a different place, and it was a really dumb decision to aim like this.
Hole 14 - Another?? This really was a shockingly amazing shot. I took a long time to consider my aim, as you have to judge the wind differently when shooting for this hole's green. Since the ground is at a significantly higher altitude than the position you're shooting from, you must take into account that the ball will be in the air for a shorter amount of time. I thought I had applied too much backspin for the ball to reach the pin at first, but thankfully the ball landed on a downward slope and had a fast bounce forward!
Hole 15 - This hole is always a pretty good place to save a shot in any run, but I personally find pin 'AM' the best, and the one I got (AL) is the furthest away, which makes it a bit harder to hit the right power for. Having created every south wind setup for the 'B' pins on this hole, I started from there and tried to imagine how differently it would work for a much further back pin, and went with 3 Iron, which was the right call.
Hole 16 - I couldn't have made any better of an approach, honestly. Southwest wind is very useful for going past the bunker, and I just needed to get my power level right. You do have to be quite precise, as overshooting the green on this hole can be a big problem, but I set myself up near perfectly for the putt.
Hole 17 - I hate this pin. 'AL' is so close to the edge of the cliff, you have to slow down your shot in time, but it feels completely impossible to do that with northward wind sometimes. I had the right idea with the Spoon, but needed around 0.1-0.2 less power. Even so, after that first shot the putt should've been doable, but I just assumed that the curves of the green wouldn't be as drastic as they seemed. This was a stupid mistake, and I can't believe I threw the -17.
Hole 18 - I thought maybe I could go for the Albatross and save the run, but after switching to 5 instead of 3 Iron, I didn't account for the extra time the ball would fly and misjudged the wind speed. Still got close, though.
