English people, this is your website too

Hi all, sorry for my english..
Well, I would like to talk about the \"problem\" of english. Although we pass the website on english by default to become an internationnal website, there are no many english topic on the forum and comment on the news.

Why ? It's because most members are french? You feel overwhelmed by the French?
It's a serious problem because we want to be an english website with a french options, and not reverse.

If it's that, what about hide the french by default if you are not french? Like that when you visit VGR, you only see english comment on the news, and english topic on the forum. No more french by default, except if you click on a little button for display the french things if you want.

I understant that you want VGR to be an international website (and I want it to !) but... isn't it a frensh site at the start ?
For me it doesn't matter because it won't change enything, and if there are more english talking members in the futur I will talk more english and it's still not a problem...
But will that mean that VGR won't be a frensh site enymore ?

VGR was a french site, but it's not attractive for the rest of the world. It's better to become an english site with french option.

No, even if the english is more important, we don't erase the french. There are \"www.vgr-fr.com\" for internationnal.

I jus want to say English people don't use vgr and French don't want to use vgr because it's in english, and I think it's better to have a choice, because some people can't look the francais in the high of screen ^^

As an English person, let me comment on how I found both CS and VGR.

in December 2008, I was looking for a website to display high scores. I found Cyberscore first followed by VGR shortly after. VGR looked like a better website, but when I clicked the English button on the top, only a few words of text were actually translated, the news was still in French. It seemed like the translation button didn't really work. I tried looking for another English version of VGR on the web, I tried www.vgr-us.com for example. Since everything was still in French I chose Cyberscore as the site to display my records. I later decided to come back and register on VGR, although I only posted records and didn't care about anything else since it was still French. I became more interested in this site after the switch last August.

btw, the news is still in French, I never see an English news outside of the special news.
edit: I would also like to point out that the latest games, scores, videos on the bottom often display the French name while viewing the site on the English side.

For news, we don't have enough translators add Tops of the week or similar have to be send regulary: we can't wait for a translator.
So, if english people (with good french level --not as mine in english --) want to help VGR, there's no problem!

For your edit, we know that bug but we currently don't know how to fix it.

I know this bug of the bottom of the page.
It will be corrected on VGR V6 , and also there will be a cookie to save the language of an non connected user.

It is very hard to find vgr-fr.com through Google searching for high scores: it is not on the first five pages (!).  I originally found VGR by looking at forum signatures on Cyberscore. :(

Now that I know of VGR, part of the problem with using it (Community pages) is that there is no easy way to list all new posts.  I come to the site, check the front page for new games, log in & check for PMs, then check the Games requests forum & if I don't have time, I end there.  I just do not see active discussions because of limited time.

Whatever you do, please do not hide that this is a multi-language site: this is great!  If anything, add more languages by implementing the Google translator.

[Edit:] Oh, something I remember when registering: the countries are not in English.  I almost did not sign up because I had great difficulty in finding the French for United Kingdom.  I had to hunt through my memories & translate \"why-o-min-eee\" that I remember from the Eurovision presenters...

I'm bilingual/bicultural in English/French, so I would be interested in acting as a translator for VGR! =)

@Barthax: we know that VGR's not a good ranking on google.com searching (while it's 1st on google.fr's one ). We'll try to fix and upgrade this but google's update time can be long (severals day), so, it's not easy to be sure that modifications we'll do make differences...

I note your request to get all new posts, even if the final \"block\" in the footer list all 10 last posts in the forum ;)

And, last thing, for country names, they're got directly from the database and there's no translation possible: we have to create a list country list, in english.
This is done, but not apply on this version of VGR. In the new version (VGR V6), that will be ok!

For the most recent forum posts: 10 only?  It seems a very small number.  I notice that the latest scores are also posted there: again 10 only.  However, for scores, there is a \"Latest scores\" option in the Community which shows many more but not for the forum.

As I mentioned, I almost did not sign up because finding the correct country was so difficult.  English translations of countries for V6 will be great. :)

Yes, it is a small number but we can't do more in this footer.
The Latest scores' link (also avaible by clicking on the number of scores posted) was created later (by myself) in order to make a bigger list, that I didn't do with \"Last Videos\" and \"Last Messages\". But don't worry, it will come
