So the only real problem comes with the "Max"
The In-game combo counter goes on forever, but the actual score that gets saved has to be from 0-65535
Because of the 16-Bit system, it can only have 65536 integers.
From Wikipedia: "A 16-bit integer can store 2^16 (or 65,536) distinct values."
The first one is 0, 65,534 of them are for the numbers 1-65,534, and the last one is used for ---
With that, what Zimer says is true.
If you get a score of 65,535 then you get this saved: ---
If you get a score of 65,536 then you get this saved: 0 (If you didn't have a higher score)
By the way, 0 is default. The only way to show --- is without selecting a character, or you get exactly 65,535 with a character.
If you rollover and the scores saves like 50. Then you make a score of 51, it will overwrite it, so the rollover isn't saved, if that makes any sense. So the only problem lies in if we should accept --- as the max and the score we post is 65,535 or if we accept only numbers and say 65,534 is the max since it is the highest number saved.
The only problem I see is if there is no way to overwrite ---
Zimer, can you test to see if there is any way to overwrite it? It may be impossible...
I don't have the game, but noticed there's a total chart. So is there a difference how total score is counted between 65,534 and ---? Or is total score also maxed at 65,534?
There is no Total record saved, so that chart on VGR is a mistake. I think I just copied and pasted the character list from another record group and forgot to remove the total. My mistake. :dead:
Edit: If by chance a Game Admin sees this, could you please remove this chart?

Bump.
I have new information about the Max. I did some testing:
First, I obtained 65,535 in-game with Little Mac and stopped it. The game saved it as ---
Next, I tried to overwrite it with any combo (lets say like 12), and it stayed at ---
Just to be sure, I also entered training mode with Little Mac without making a single combo and nothing changed. Still at ---
Then, I tried to make higher than 65,535 so that we can see if it compares the saved score with the new in-game score before trying to save... And it did.
In-game, the counter said 65,898 when I stopped it with Little Mac. It then saved it as 362.
Lastly, I checked to see if the new saved score had any memory of the rollover, so I made 374 combos, and it did overwrite the score.
What this means is that before it tries to save the score in Training Mode, it checks to see if the In-game counter is higher than the saved score. If It is, then it checks to see if it is under 65,536. If not, then it "rolls over" the score and then saves it.
The exact process it goes through may be more complicated, but for us to follow with it, this makes sense.
Anything up to 65,534 will save as that number.
Getting 65,535 will save as --- (This being the highest possible value) and can only be overwritten by going over 65,535 in-game.
Knowing that both can be changed, what do we do? What do we accept as the best on VGR?
I Personally prefer allowing the highest number saved (not symbol), and the highest score than can be proven by photo where the number posted on VGR matches the one on the picture.
For Me, 65,534 is the highest.
For Zimer, 65,535 is the highest. He doesn't seem to mind that you can send a picture proof with --- shown and it be counted as 65,535.
We should take a vote. If more people want 65,535 as the accepted highest score, then I can accept that.
I vote for 65,534.
]
... if one reaches 65 535 combos, it counts as 0 even if it is written in black.
That is for 65536.
So, explain to me why your game does not save 65,535 with Isabelle? To tell me that it's the max while the game does not even save the score does not necessarily mean it's the maximum score. I have to have concrete proof that the game accepts this score for it to be accepted by the game.

The reason --- is the highest value, is because you cannot overwrite it with any score up to 65,535. You specifically have to make higher than that.
It does not save as 65,535 because the game can only save up to 65,536 unique integers or symbols.
One of them is used for 0, one is used for ---, so that leaves 65,534 numbers left. The last value (of the 65,536) is the ---.
So making 65,535 combos in-game results in the game saving the score as ---.

Just to make a comparison:
When Metroid Demo was released for NDS (first game of DS), they have a Hi-Score board that stores just 8 positions. But during the play, your high score could have 9 positions....the result was:
When you did 90.000.000 it was saved as 90.000.000
When you did 100.000.000 it was saved as 10.000.000
When you look the board is was:
10.000.000 1st place
90.000.000 2nd place
Making an analogy...if this fact, told by Zimer is true, we can accept.
In my oppinion, the unique pist here is:
The score valid, is the scored that is shown on the character select string... "---" can be traduced to 65536...no problem....

From what I understood, you need to do "not the best you can" in order to have the max score saved...
So it shouldn't be on VGR.
Still thinking the same.
Aren't all games that rollover the score the same though? In a game where the max is 999,990 but if you go over that score, then it goes back to 0, then there you have to not do your best as well. There are many games out there like that and I know there are some like this on VGR.
