Description
Improved to {-26}: https://youtu.be/sMbSQu7ZF3Y
After a while, I got a new personal best of 47 strokes! I think it goes to show that getting good RNG in the wind department is a very large factor for the front nine, as this run felt quite average and I’m confident I can improve it in the future.
I made some pretty silly mistakes and not all that many great shots, but generally made good approaches and secured myself the second best score for almost every hole. The run went similarly to my previous Resort -13, but I just couldn't do the same for Classic.
*Thoughts:*
Hole 2 - Northwest wind with ‘AM’ is very hard to Ace for me personally, as especially with strong cases like this one you need to judge a bounce on the rough, and I don’t have any setups for it as of now. This is obviously a clear place for improvement for a -26, as I can pretty realistically start each run with an Eagle & an Ace.
Hole 6 - I tried to apply what I knew from the Zero Wind setup, but didn’t quite correctly estimate the strength of the wind. I got close, though.
Hole 7 - Should’ve been an easy eagle, but I rather stupidly red-lined. The whole Resort Nine I was playing rather uncaringly as I’d just killed a -25 pace run right before this one, and I only started taking it seriously once I realised that my front nine exit was pretty good.
Hole 9 - I couldn’t have asked for much better. With weak north wind it’s a super easy setup for a putt, so I just had to get it right, and I did.
Hole 10 - I wasn’t paying enough attention to the setup and used Driver when you need to use Spoon for shot one. This and Hole 7 are the reason why I’m not particularly happy with this run, as with less hasty mistakes this run could’ve even gotten a top three score!
Hole 14 - I was more shocked than anything, as I’m usually very good at judging my shot through or past the tree. After landing in the rough I considered going further right for a full dip into the bunker, but figured it wasn’t worth the risk and attempted the wedge. Silly mistake.
Hole 15 - I red-lined again, which I think just shows how flippantly I was playing this whole thing. I find it hard to believe this run actually amounted to a good score lol.
Hole 16 - I had good RNG and managed a really good shot to set up for the putt. While I considered the possibility of going this far, I was actually expecting to go through the bunker, and it was mostly luck that I ended up like this.
Hole 17 - Pin ‘AL’ is usually really difficult due to having to slow the ball down so early for it. Thankfully, South wind is the one combination I knew for sure how to play, and was able to make it close for the birdie.
Hole 18 - I didn’t need anything special at this point. I was obviously going for the Albatross, trying to modify a setup I’d made with 5m/s, but couldn't really after red-lining AGAIN, it really is silly that I did this three times lol.
So in short, if I had actually hit the Hole 7 eagle, the Hole 10 eagle & avoided the tree on Hole 14… this run would’ve been -28. Yup, that’s my long-term goal now.
